Sew Grateful 2014 Vintage McCall's Giveaway

Hello Sewing Friends,
 I noticed Debi's Sew Grateful week last year but I was still super new to blogging and hadn't figured a bunch of stuff out. This year I have grown in skill and confidence and most importantly found it in time to participate!

Since Debi is the McCall's queen I went through some of my unlisted shop inventory and stole this classy little number: McCall's 3604.

It's a simple little tunic or dress with a trouser pattern also included. I chose it for it's simplicity yet it has some quite unique details, like the funnel collar and the center front seaming which allows for interesting piecing or just a lovely V neckline. It's also a Bust 38 because I know how hard it can be for some of you more well endowed sewing ladies to find vintage in your size!

Can you believe we’ve made it through a whole year already? It seems like just yesterday Cindy and I were emailing back and forth about this great idea for a sew along that would last the whole year and now we’ve completed it. I don’t know about you but I’m pretty proud of us and of all of you!

SNOW and One Year Anniversary Giveaway

Well I'm back!! Apparently when you lose electricity your phone and internet are run by batteries which run out and leave you completely cut off from the world wide web for over 24 hours until the storm stops and the telephone men can slip and slide their way to the hubs and hook up generators!

Sunday dawned bright and clear and sunny letting us go out and inspect the damage.

Worst October Snowstorm in 100 years. 10 inches to 2 feet. 

In 15 miles of road we counted 100 downed power poles. Thank God for the generator!

So many damaged trees and dead cattle, sheep and horses.

Tiramisu braves the outdoors for the first time in three days.

 Anyways, on to the giveaway. September marked my first year of blogging. I've learned so much, made so many new friends and connections and got to participate in a ton of amazing sewalongs. I also have gotten to run the Stashbusting Sewalong and am so happy to see how it has been helping all of us sew up the fabrics we love.
I wanted to give something back to all of you and I didn't want to have to choose one so I thought I'd share a sneak peek at a project I'm working on. TaDa!

I really want to see what some applique would look like.

If there's ever a time I could be could be called a nerd it's with words. I love words and don't think good words are used often enough. I've been collecting kawaii images on Pinterest for awhile in hopes of putting together a quilt sometime. Six inch squares alternating between a kawaii shape and solid fabric blocks. When I thought of words my idea was set! What do we want children to BE? I'm working on my drawing skills and coming up with a whole set of Be Kawaii embroidery patterns.
This is my first one. Be Patient

Patience: Waiting without complaining 

Patient : able to remain calm and not become annoyed when waiting for a long time or when dealing with problems or difficult people

If there's one thing I've learned this year is to be patient. Starting a business, starting a blog, living life, it all takes patience and what's more patient than a seed? My March Plans

Hey Stashbusters!!
  Are the seasons changing yet for you? The wind still bites like winter here even if the sun is shining a bit brighter. I've got some ambitious plans for a piece of dark brown chocolatey velvet I snagged at a thrift store awhile back.

I love jackets and this amazing vintage one is begging me to make it up in time for Easter to go over my first 50's dress attempt. I'll have to resize this pattern and I may add a band around the bottom so it sits at my natural waistline. It's my first time sewing with real velvet and I may add a lining too. I feel like that's a lot of firsts in one project so I'm not going to plan too many more March Stashbusting Goals.

I have to start and finish my Covert Robin gift, finish up some trip toys for the visit to Salt Lake City, Utah the end of this month, and make up a custom dress order so I'd say March is pretty full already. But.....

I must admit I wasn't as super excited about this pattern release as I was for Tiramisu or as impatient as I am to get my copy of Hummingbird but I decided to enter a giveaway over at Disparate Disciplines and I WON!!! Whoo Hoo!! My first win! I was even more excited when I saw these pictures!

This asymmetrical Pavlova has given me SO MANY IDEAS!! You all know how much I love asymmetry with Tira and I can't wait to play with this skirt now!

After Christmas Parties

This morning is a brief moment of sanity amidst the blood sugar insanity going on against my will and best efforts in my body. While I'm waiting for the Dr.'s advice I thought I'd quickly pop on and let you know of some great things going on online. *(Cause we all need ideas for spending all that Christmas money;) 

I'M SO EXCITED!!! If you haven't heard of Cake patterns you need to hop over to Steph's blog and website to check them out. Her Tiramisu dress pattern was at the top of my Christmas money list BUT she was running an amazing treasure hunt on her new website and I managed to find all 8 pieces of cake and plan to claim Tira as my prize! There are still a few days left to join in the hunt if you want to take on the challenge!
