Button Love!

One weekend in February I visited with a friend and we decided to have an earring making party. I didn’t realize how much I’d missed creating socially until we sat down together. Never underestimate the joy and productivity that can come when you gather together with other creatives. It doesn’t have to be complicated or the house clean, just clear off a table and create something. You’ll be surprised at the refreshment it brings.
I wish you could see the iridescence
and delicacy of these Mother of Pearl
buttons.

These are so fun! The buttons are
poofy red things that just
make you happy!

I was also surprised at how elegant buttons can look. I mean, I love buttons and think sewing should be incorporated into as many areas of our lives as possible, but I wasn’t expecting them to look so classy!

I love them so much and have set them up in a cute little display in our shop. I’m thinking about listing them on Etsy too but they are mostly one of a kind pieces and Etsy is full of jewelry so I’m dithering.
My little velvet display frames!

To also add to the excitement they are vintage buttons getting new life! And no buttons were harmed in the making so when the zombie apocalypse comes you'll be able to repurpose your earrings and hold your clothes shut in style!

Yes, those half moons are beautiful shank buttons that I mounted without harm to them!

What do you think about button jewelry? Would you wear them?

  1. I love them ALL! And who wouldn't wear them??? I agree with you about Etsy, it has sooo many sellers and so much stuff, it's just too much to wade through anymore. I mostly buy from people who have FB pages set up. It's easier to keep track of them. - Great work!

  3. Thanks! I'm glad I'm not alone in loving them.
Thanks for the info on your shopping. I already have an Etsy shop and I can't figure out how people sell on FB. Maybe it's something I should look into. :)

  5. D'you know, I wouldn't ever have thought of wearing button jewellry (having seen some truly horrible necklaces!), but these look REALLY lovely! I especially like your black & gold half moons and those long-drop ones. Gorgeous!

  6. Thanks Sarah! I was pleasantly surprised at how unbuttony and professional (whatever that means) these turned out. Glad you like them!

  7. Oh, they look really nice! I'm surprised, too how lovely they look as earrings. I need to look at my button collection and see about making some necklaces or something.

  8. Ooh if you ever get something made do send me a photo. I love seeing the different kinds of buttons and how people figure out how to use them.

  10. I love the frames that you're using to display the earrings. They're so cute. Just like the earrings themselves.
