<br />
Hello Sewing World!<br />
Long time no see!<br />
You are telling me. My sewing machines have been weeping in my neglect of them which has been matched by the tears of my heart and the shivering of my skin whenever I am not dressed warmly enough...<br />
<br />
A new year is here! I started it out with my fifth move in less than two years. If you count summer jobs it bumps the moves up to seven. I have a lovely room with three big windows that pour in sunlight. The room begs to be sewn in. I am hoping the second semester of college will prove less overwhelming and I can happily oblige.<br />
<br />
For the last several years I have just made a list of things I want to make for the Stashbusting Sewalong. In 2016 I had 46 projects listed. I accomplished 19 of them. Four were either crossed off or changed.<br />
<br />
In 2017 I actually counted the yardage I brought with me and collected over this last year. This is only a small sample of what I have and does not include the three or four boxes of scrap and quilting fabric bits... My small collection tops out at around 150 yards of fabric!<br />
<br />
Good thing I have lots of plans for 2017!<br />
<br />
The <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/stashbusting2015/">Stashbusting Sewalong</a> is still going strong! It has taken on a life of its own and I am so happy to see my baby all grown up and functioning without my guidance... This year we are all trying to count our stashes. We want to see if our group holds over a million yards of fabric collectively. We also want to see if as a collective we can reduce that stash by 10%. I think it sounds like a fun goal to work towards.<br />
<br />
I am also part of its sister group <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/1650929411795464/">Sew Alongs & Sewing Contests</a> I'll be starting of the year with them sewing patterns from Deep Stash!!!<br />
<br />
One of the perks of going to University is the cheap printing services so all the copy shop PDFS are MINE!!!! Style Arc is my new favorite company and I am trying out lots of their designs.<br />
<br />
Going back to school full time, working part time and living in a city has been a huge adjustment for me this year. I've learned so much and have made so many new friends. I am excited to see what 2017 brings!<br />
<br />
Happy Sewing to you all in 2017!EmSewCrazyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04896183158092761878noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8186605029090457349.post-19820450439409070032016-06-06T17:01:00.000-06:002016-06-06T17:01:18.140-06:00First Newsletter with Moving Sale<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I kept data of what I wore even though I did not take any photos of my daily outfits. Too much stress.<br />
<br />
The winner of the most worn award: Espresso Leggings by Cake Patterns!<br />
I have two pair in cotton and two pair in wool. They are red and navy. The navy wool pair made the month with 6 wears but all together leggings were worn 12 times.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Brings me the most joy!!! </td></tr>

<div>
<br /></div>
There was only one day I did not wear any Me Mades and I wore store-bought pieces 12 times over the month. These were mostly cardigans or sweaters. The other wears were solid tops with a printed skirt... remember this Emily!!! You wear solids! <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I really like wearing skirts and dresses. They are more comfortable and easy wearing. I do like my trousers for traveling and pockets though. Looking at my notes, I need to do some work on undergarments. I could use a short slip and some tanks. And a new floaty summer nightgown! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have a couple special projects that have been on the back burner for awhile that I plan on working on but since I am in the process of moving and I'm not sure what the new needs of my life will be, I am putting most of my garment sewing on hold...<br /><div>
<br />
I need to get my business newsletter off the ground and hopefully find some good craft shows to market my wares so I think I am going to direct my creative energies that direction.<br />
<br />
Any great revelations for you this MMM? Any advice on moving the sewing room? Space is premium and I'm dithering on what to pack?!!?!</div>

I picked up this sheer cream with silver squares at a thrift store? Either that or the fabric fairies dropped it off on the way by. I knew it was an impractical piece but it paired perfectly with a very gathered vintage dress pattern I had. This pattern was such a hog I had to take a wedge out of the back and front to get it to fit on the yardage I had. It worked up just as I imagined though. Swishy and light. You must wear it with a belt though otherwise it looks like I'm swallowed up in dirty clouds.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MfyV2K1DOeE/Vxg-jlsWEyI/AAAAAAAAD3c/3lnzNuiHiZ8TAv2U12vxGPQ2ti1oBO4VQCLcB/s1600/dress2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MfyV2K1DOeE/Vxg-jlsWEyI/AAAAAAAAD3c/3lnzNuiHiZ8TAv2U12vxGPQ2ti1oBO4VQCLcB/s640/dress2.jpg" width="630" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">And you can't really see the silver squares but that's ok.. they are there and sparkly in real life.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
My next dress was supposed to be a lovely wool that would be warm to wear to school. Alas it got thrown to the wayside one morose Sunday afternoon when I picked up this happy floral. I took the top of the Staple dress pattern and gathered a large rectangle to the waist line. Since I did french seams it sits a bit higher than I prefer but since I'm always going to be wearing it with a belt, which covers everything, it is all good. I took the time to add pockets so this is now one of my favorite pieces in the whole bunch! I wore it Easter Sunday and felt lovely. I will be wearing it again as soon as I fix the random tear that developed along the bodice.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PVDgfEci8Dc/Vxg-l4d4y8I/AAAAAAAAD3g/lSzonUUsLoYzBAqWdl0gSB5CcTWI32L6gCLcB/s1600/dress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="626" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PVDgfEci8Dc/Vxg-l4d4y8I/AAAAAAAAD3g/lSzonUUsLoYzBAqWdl0gSB5CcTWI32L6gCLcB/s640/dress.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
So that is my new happy wardrobe which is definitely pining for spring and summer weather!<br />
You can see the other pieces of my collection here:<a href="http://tumbleweedsinthewind.blogspot.com/2016/04/wardrobe-challenge-tops.html"> Tops,</a> Bottoms, JacketEmSewCrazyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04896183158092761878noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8186605029090457349.post-8361633924839490822016-06-02T15:20:00.002-06:002016-06-02T15:20:57.993-06:00Capsule Wardrobe Challenge: The BottomsFor the challenge we were required to make two bottoms. I had this sparkly stretch denim and brown corduroy earmarked for trousers forever! I think I counted they have been on my To Sew list for four years.<br />
<br />
For the sparkle denim I used my new favorite trouser pattern, the Endeavor from Cake Patterns. These are wonderful to put together. Steph drafts the pattern so you can immediately make it the correct length and also makes it easy to adjust for width. Plenty of room for shaping it to whatever shape your backside may be. With a side zipper it is familiar to install and faster than a fly front. I do put in a lapped zipper instead of the invisible one the pattern calls for. It does tend to be more<br />
noticeable but it is what I have on hand. Stashbust those zippers!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-q-fpYhvgEeo/Vxg_Uz6BdCI/AAAAAAAAD3s/TDqU915v87EnT1NVniIMJjyL_YvRVpFUgCLcB/s1600/Jeans.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="380" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-q-fpYhvgEeo/Vxg_Uz6BdCI/AAAAAAAAD3s/TDqU915v87EnT1NVniIMJjyL_YvRVpFUgCLcB/s640/Jeans.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
One of my favorite parts about making pants is choosing fun linings and pocket bags. I really like the remnants I got to use up for these.<br />
<br />
My corduroy trousers are a hack from the Maritime Shorts pattern. I'm not sure if I've got the leg lengthened exactly right but maybe it is just because the corduroy is softer than my first version in twill. They are soft and comfy and will pass for my work casual wardrobe.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EGvJsgupXNM/V1CjIF9lNhI/AAAAAAAAD48/VnA8KogVdSMl5BsOl8eX0KVCbmKvYjB-wCLcB/s1600/Wardrobe%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="393" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EGvJsgupXNM/V1CjIF9lNhI/AAAAAAAAD48/VnA8KogVdSMl5BsOl8eX0KVCbmKvYjB-wCLcB/s400/Wardrobe%2B2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I have been wearing the denim non stop and loving them. I was slightly worried the leg would feel too wide but it doesn't. I also get lots of compliments from strangers so I take this for a good sign. You have to really like something to comment to a stranger.<br />
<br />
I'm considering this a success in my closet and in my stash!EmSewCrazyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04896183158092761878noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8186605029090457349.post-36368657699809399182016-04-30T14:04:00.002-06:002016-04-30T14:10:27.537-06:00Stashbusting Ramble and Me Made May Pledge<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I do not know where April went. Do you? </div>
Mine was lost in a blur of work, paper writing, apartment hunting and what feels like very little creating. Dabbling here and there but mostly treading water as I count down the days until school the job, and school the online, are completed.<br />
<br />
Stashbusting, First off I'm so proud of how my little idea has grown over the years into this vibrant community! It has become part of the sewing world and will live on now regardless of what I do. This makes me happy. I am so thankful for everyone who participates and helps lead and give feedback. Stashbusting forever!<br />
<br />
Transition from that high, I'm pretty sure I gave into my fabric fears by not sewing much of anything this month. I am greatly enjoying all the new additions to my wardrobe from the contest I entered last month though. Eventually they will all get blogged... Oh I just checked my list, I sewed up two pieces of fabric this month. A tunic and a sack dress. I guess two pieces out is still two out. I don't think I bought any fabric this month although I've started looking at the emails... must stop!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://sozowhatdoyouknow.blogspot.com/2016/04/me-made-may-16-sign-up-here.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="me-made-may'16" src="http://i855.photobucket.com/albums/ab120/zozowahine/mmmay16finalsmall_zps1vpgllbm.jpg" height="250" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
After much dithering, I decided to participate in Me-Made-May this year. I pledged to not stress out about taking photos every day or wear a certain number of handmade pieces. Instead I am going to wear whatever I want and keep records. Here's what I'll be tracking:<br />
<ul>
<li>number of wears</li>
<li>how it makes me feel</li>
<li>why I wore it</li>
<li>how it functioned</li>
</ul>
<div>
After writing it down that actually doesn't look too complicated... what I will do with this data remains to be seen. Can you think of anything else that would be good to track? Are you participating in MMM?</div>
<br />
Well I better get back to my final research paper... I keep telling myself I can sew summer dresses as soon as I finish it...<br />

<i><br /></i>
I was originally very nervous about making the topper for the collection. It had to match with EVERYTHING and the only jacket I had planned was this Turquoise Mona. I knew it would be a risk shape wise with the tunic tops but it was a piece I had been planning for years and I knew it was finally time to get it done.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ebxhwnX4eKk/Vxg_GqWkGhI/AAAAAAAAD3k/3GO5tMoJvsQ0T7WwAWjQElY9sARNh8EGACLcB/s1600/jacket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="310" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ebxhwnX4eKk/Vxg_GqWkGhI/AAAAAAAAD3k/3GO5tMoJvsQ0T7WwAWjQElY9sARNh8EGACLcB/s640/jacket.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I guess I'm an intermediate seamstress because I didn't struggle with the sparse instructions, and the photos in the online tutorial provided more clarity on the back placket steps. This jacket pattern is well constructed and it went together quickly. Even with me putting the sleeves in backwards the first time! I'll have to make sure to better mark front and back next time around.<br />
<br />
I really like how simple and easy wearing this jacket is... my real worry is how often can I get away with wearing it? Twice a week? Three times? I guess it all depends on how much coughing the kids are doing at school... germs.EmSewCrazyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04896183158092761878noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8186605029090457349.post-47464288055901169832016-04-20T20:19:00.000-06:002016-04-20T20:19:20.702-06:00Wardrobe Challenge: The TopsSince I've started working at school, I've been needing more casual dressy (is that a term?) things to wear to work. So I decided to stack my cohesive wardrobe with tops!<br />
<br />
I loved the Lani Tunic from Style Arc so I invest in some of their PDFs and I am sold on their draftsmanship! Since their patterns only come in three sizes and you print the PDF in one size I made the Daisy tunic first to check my size in their patterns. Spot on!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AGvP5_wVlkQ/VxKFYIzS5XI/AAAAAAAAD2w/g2NtTby8tiEmTrlULazz8IfPfuMpdvURACLcB/s1600/Tops.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AGvP5_wVlkQ/VxKFYIzS5XI/AAAAAAAAD2w/g2NtTby8tiEmTrlULazz8IfPfuMpdvURACLcB/s640/Tops.jpg" width="384" /></a></div>
<br />
The Daisy Tunic has a fun double hem and POCKETS!!! My friend liked it so much she ordered one from me so you get to see the Daisy in two incarnations! Flannel on the left and chambray on the right.<br />
<br />
When that turned out so well I started on my Lani Tunic! Lots of pieces that I just managed to fit on the three bits of coordinating fabric I had. Part of me wishes I would have pieced the front differently but I don't think I would have gotten all the pieces cut in any other layout.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-O2po2Lpj7_U/Vxg3hPT2ksI/AAAAAAAAD3E/6zOIS7Aa1GoNacwi-tDrKR-jsFZfbZolQCLcB/s1600/Tops2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="582" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-O2po2Lpj7_U/Vxg3hPT2ksI/AAAAAAAAD3E/6zOIS7Aa1GoNacwi-tDrKR-jsFZfbZolQCLcB/s640/Tops2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The striped Cabarita turned out to be a quick make, even after I realized the stripes were printed vertically on the fabric so I was going to have to cut a single layer on the bias to get happy vertical stripes. I add bands to the hem which I split for a fun look.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-M1TCWGHbrRc/Vxg3g2SHBgI/AAAAAAAAD3A/CQQubSEG29wo7ldVWMSkioh2ZxijPV3AQCLcB/s1600/Tops3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="368" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-M1TCWGHbrRc/Vxg3g2SHBgI/AAAAAAAAD3A/CQQubSEG29wo7ldVWMSkioh2ZxijPV3AQCLcB/s640/Tops3.jpg" width="640" /></a>I loved this silk but never wore it as a skirt, I used my TNT block to experiment in turning it into a shirt. I pinned and cut the double layers then sewed them so all the seams were inside. It made for a quick make even with the shifty silk.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hw-aTgQZ_h4/Vxg3iDPopLI/AAAAAAAAD3M/orMmrLKy0cYFXjU8ddb3EAwGdo5dKbwPQCLcB/s1600/Tops4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="368" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hw-aTgQZ_h4/Vxg3iDPopLI/AAAAAAAAD3M/orMmrLKy0cYFXjU8ddb3EAwGdo5dKbwPQCLcB/s640/Tops4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Finally I delved into my vintage pattern collection and was able to squeak out this little blouse from my vintage remnant. I kept the pleats running from the shoulder loose because when sewn per pattern instructions they ended in a place modern bosoms don't go. :) It's not a perfect top but is definitely workable for not making a muslin or altering something from the 50's. The fabric and buttons make sure I will wear it even if the perfect fit isn't there. Once in an outfit, it gets lots of compliments and I feel pretty professional in it!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Wv3W0VTkY2E/Vxg3hpc5w-I/AAAAAAAAD3I/dI_qPDmue94fevAFWcJngW0gslcXJj08wCLcB/s1600/Tops5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="368" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Wv3W0VTkY2E/Vxg3hpc5w-I/AAAAAAAAD3I/dI_qPDmue94fevAFWcJngW0gslcXJj08wCLcB/s640/Tops5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Well that's my tops! So I have a question for you who work with children. How often do you wash your clothes? I hate throwing something that is "clean" in the wash after one wear but sometimes they are hacking and coughing so much I feel covered in germs. How do you handle washing work attire?EmSewCrazyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04896183158092761878noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8186605029090457349.post-46671496278189979292016-02-05T18:47:00.001-07:002016-02-05T18:47:48.606-07:00Capsule Wardrobe Challenge<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My fabrics!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
In true shoot for the moon, land among the stars mantra I'm joining two Capsule wardrobe challenges. Pattern Review and Sew-a-Longs<br />
Pattern Review has a shorter time frame and a stricter garment policy: 10 garments consisting of 2 bottoms, 2 tops, 1 topper and 5 wild cards which all must go together.<br />
<br />
If I can't make that I should be able to have a solid entry for Sew-along which is a considerably longer time frame and a more relaxed approach of a cohesive wardrobe of 8 pieces all your choice.<br />
<br />
I think I have my plans figured out... we'll start with the hardest piece.<br />
<br />
The Topper (which must go with everything)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-baXe6iRgRrM/VrVNIQexYDI/AAAAAAAAD0o/hiCnzPpwBHQ/s1600/IMG_1605.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-baXe6iRgRrM/VrVNIQexYDI/AAAAAAAAD0o/hiCnzPpwBHQ/s400/IMG_1605.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I've been wanting to make this jacket for FOREVER so it's about time! Turquoise corduroy is what I've also had picked out forever so I had to reconcile myself to the fact that all pieces must coordinate with it.<br />
<br />
The Bottoms<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SGjIA9OcSOE/VrVNHfXIW7I/AAAAAAAAD0c/5V1o-7sJGew/s1600/IMG_1602.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SGjIA9OcSOE/VrVNHfXIW7I/AAAAAAAAD0c/5V1o-7sJGew/s320/IMG_1602.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AiQLISIcHGM/VrVOwXzZGVI/AAAAAAAAD1A/ovpBzVYiNPI/s1600/Shopify_TP_Cover_Endy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AiQLISIcHGM/VrVOwXzZGVI/AAAAAAAAD1A/ovpBzVYiNPI/s320/Shopify_TP_Cover_Endy.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I've had these fabrics earmarked for trousers for an abysmally long time and it's about time they get made up. The brown corduroy will be my <a href="http://shop.grainlinestudio.com/products/maritime-shorts">Maritime Shorts Jeans</a> hack and the sparkle denim will be another lovely pair of <a href="http://shop.sewingcake.com/products/endeavour-trousers">Endeavours</a>. I'm hoping the stretch in it will compensate for wearing over leggings during these cold months since the ones I've already made with zero stretch are too snug.<br />
<br />
The Tops<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gCrNhCRhefc/VrVNIokgJwI/AAAAAAAAD0s/jGbmXpuAz7s/s1600/IMG_1603.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gCrNhCRhefc/VrVNIokgJwI/AAAAAAAAD0s/jGbmXpuAz7s/s320/IMG_1603.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This seems to be my biggest wardrobe hole, dressy work appropriate tops so I'm going to make quite a few.<br />
Daisy Tunic in Red Flannel<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-civUQorAMz4/VrVPr8kMp8I/AAAAAAAAD1E/RUWarSqt4C4/s1600/514%252B5WLTcEL._SX425_.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-civUQorAMz4/VrVPr8kMp8I/AAAAAAAAD1E/RUWarSqt4C4/s320/514%252B5WLTcEL._SX425_.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Lani Tunic with those two cottons as my base fabrics and I'll figure out the other coordinate fabrics when I get there.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yF5Cd1pN50Y/VrVPsqt_5aI/AAAAAAAAD1I/JfgVANjkZhU/s1600/LANI-TUNIC.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="208" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yF5Cd1pN50Y/VrVPsqt_5aI/AAAAAAAAD1I/JfgVANjkZhU/s320/LANI-TUNIC.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Some sort of Cabarita hack in this turquoise stripe that is running vertically down the fabric!! So it will be cut on the bias and I'm toying with trying to figure out long sleeves... I guess it will depend on my fabric yardage.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Hj2cSbTO6lg/VrVQfWHaoII/AAAAAAAAD1U/1sX2w8b-EGI/s1600/2222_Cabarita_Front.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="314" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Hj2cSbTO6lg/VrVQfWHaoII/AAAAAAAAD1U/1sX2w8b-EGI/s320/2222_Cabarita_Front.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
My Kimono Top pattern for the silk skirt I'm going to up cycle<br />
I think a cute vintage blouse for the red vintage polka dots. I forgot to take a photo of it...<br />
<br />
A Dress<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bMMSykmKzrU/VrVNJAYhRJI/AAAAAAAAD0w/o0-sv9-J6rE/s1600/IMG_1607.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bMMSykmKzrU/VrVNJAYhRJI/AAAAAAAAD0w/o0-sv9-J6rE/s400/IMG_1607.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I love dresses and this brown wool with a tiny turquoise plaid stripe will make a lovely 50's vibe winter one. Now I need to figure out how to wash the wool...<br />
<br />
A Gauzy Thing<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wLguA4Ckn10/VrVNJRngr2I/AAAAAAAAD00/gKDKkZICVjI/s1600/IMG_1608.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wLguA4Ckn10/VrVNJRngr2I/AAAAAAAAD00/gKDKkZICVjI/s400/IMG_1608.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Not sure if this will be a top or a dress... we'll see when I get the fabric laid out. Since it is so sheer I think I want to try this voluminous vintage dress pattern I've been hoarding. Definitely the short dress length... but short or long sleeves?<br />
<br />
My only concern with this mix is that the jacket will not pair well with my tunic tops. What do you think? I was reassured it would be ok and I know I'll wear the turquoise jacket once it is made just not sure about these tops...<br />
<br />
This stacks up to four TNT patterns, a PDF jacket I must muslin for fit, three vintage patterns, and two PDF Tunics from a new to me company (hoping the sizing will be consistent for both)<br />
<br />
Now for my real dilemma! What should I call my collection? Do you have any catchy name ideas?<br />

<div style="font-family: Times; line-height: normal;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">They are so comfy, flowy and easy to wear. They always look “Sew Chic” which is the name of the book I got this pattern from!</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Times; line-height: normal;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">I used design D Blouse with Front Tucks with a couple of alterations. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Times; line-height: normal;">
</div>
<ul>
<li><span style="letter-spacing: 0px;">I lengthened the blouse to dress, shortened the sleeves and added cuffs. </span></li>
<li><span style="letter-spacing: 0px;">Decreased back pleat, partly as a design decision and partly to better accommodate my shoulders. I’m 5’10” with a 37” bust. I cut a size 12 which lists on the measurement chart 36 1/2 bust 29 waist and 38 1/2 hips.</span></li>

<br />
<div style="font-family: Times; line-height: normal;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">We all know and love Japanese patterns for their simple designs with unique details that can showcase splendid fabrics. I used this magic on my vintage silk sari. It was a lot of fun to use the borders to highlight different design details. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Times; line-height: normal;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-family: Times; letter-spacing: 0px;">To completely use up the sari I made a simple top with the print that is only on the one end of the sari. I ended up never wearing it so I gifted it to the friend you see in </span><span style="font-family: Times;">the photos with me. She loves purple and is just a tad smaller than I so it fits her better.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Times;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Times;">How has it worn? </span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-family: Times;">Oh man! Wearing silk is lovely! This turned into comfy loungewear after work at camp and became breathable pajamas when I came home and the wood stove started up. This was old silk so it pulled at the seams from the beginning. I'm not sure if I hand washed it this last time in too abrasive of soap but all of a sudden it has started shredding. I'm sad that its days are limited but I've been wearing it almost every night. </span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-family: Times;"><br /></span></div>

<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Times; line-height: normal;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0px;">“Friends don’t let friends wear MUUMUUS!” said my best friend as she rapidly dismissed me back into the dressing room. Well she’s married now, expecting her first and lives on the opposite end of the US from me. </span><span style="letter-spacing: 0px;">So here I am with two glorious tunic/dress things that I absolutely LOVE!</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Times; line-height: normal;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3DCKjb8pk5s/Vn4NPrbFyPI/AAAAAAAADyU/26cAvcKLX5g/s1600/DSCN0821.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3DCKjb8pk5s/Vn4NPrbFyPI/AAAAAAAADyU/26cAvcKLX5g/s400/DSCN0821.jpg" width="275" /></a></div>
<span style="letter-spacing: 0px;"><br /></span>
<span style="letter-spacing: 0px;">I bought the Zsayla Tunic pattern during a pattern parcel sale. I really liked its look but was worried it would be a bit too baggy so made it up first in this blue lightweight cotton. It turned out PERFECT! The designers of this pattern really got it right with just enough fullness without us drowning in the fabric. </span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-family: Times; letter-spacing: 0px;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-family: Times; letter-spacing: 0px;">With my first </span><span style="font-family: Times;">success, I cut into my precious Kaffe Fassett fabric that was my big purchase of 2014! Thanks to Sarah, from <a href="http://rhinestonesandtelephones.blogspot.com/">Rinestones and Telephones</a>, for introducing me to his fabrics. It took several tries to find a matching red for the yoke and sleeves. Finally something surfaced in the stash. I was hoping the length would come out alright and IT DID!!! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Times;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qMM_SLD1LVg/Vn4MAcmcJuI/AAAAAAAADyI/R24nDvClKq4/s1600/Zsalya1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qMM_SLD1LVg/Vn4MAcmcJuI/AAAAAAAADyI/R24nDvClKq4/s640/Zsalya1.jpg" width="640" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3R9bSL3MRt4/Vn4MAG4dhhI/AAAAAAAADyA/GjxJ9OWwGo4/s1600/Zsayla2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="356" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3R9bSL3MRt4/Vn4MAG4dhhI/AAAAAAAADyA/GjxJ9OWwGo4/s640/Zsayla2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Times;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-family: Times;">I LOVE THIS DRESS! I really love this dress. The one thing that would make it better would be pockets but I LOVE THIS Dress. It makes me so happy when I wear it or even look at it. I let it hang to air dry and I don't usually need to even iron it. Hurrah for low upkeep. I wore it with a long sleeve shirt and leggings until it got too cold. I can't wait until spring and summer rolls back around! </span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-family: Times;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal;">

<span style="font-family: Times;">The Zsayla is a hit for me! Have you ever had a pattern turn out better than you expected? </span></div>

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--YTArJbp6tU/VnsWkDCgjgI/AAAAAAAADxI/MwDlhwmkCqo/s1600/DSCN0788.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="604" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--YTArJbp6tU/VnsWkDCgjgI/AAAAAAAADxI/MwDlhwmkCqo/s640/DSCN0788.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The burgundy came first. It was a mystery fabric with great drape yet weight. I think it's slowly shrinking in the wash.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lVWIn5CWdIY/VnsWkofPkrI/AAAAAAAADxM/Ivpx6w8Mrbs/s1600/DSCN0790.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lVWIn5CWdIY/VnsWkofPkrI/AAAAAAAADxM/Ivpx6w8Mrbs/s640/DSCN0790.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
Next came the silk sari with vintage mother of pearl buttons.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qE-Mpc-DIXU/VnsWlhHQKwI/AAAAAAAADxg/br98eRIJyBg/s1600/Eliana1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="340" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qE-Mpc-DIXU/VnsWlhHQKwI/AAAAAAAADxg/br98eRIJyBg/s640/Eliana1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Finally the lavender wool for my friend. When she tried my burgundy dress on this summer she promptly turned to me and said, "My birthday is March 12th." Over Thanksgiving break, she came and we chose fabric and zipped it up so she could take it to her college Christmas party.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-__es08hD8DA/VnsWj0uGdWI/AAAAAAAADxE/u-oHSc4XO9c/s1600/DSCN0789.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-__es08hD8DA/VnsWj0uGdWI/AAAAAAAADxE/u-oHSc4XO9c/s640/DSCN0789.jpg" width="578" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">POCKETS!!! The cause of much squealing when they were discovered. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I won this pattern in a giveaway from Busy <a href="http://busylizzieinbrizzy.com/">Lizzy</a> and it has quickly become an absolute favorite. I've worn my burgundy dress tons!<br />
<br />
Pattern Changes<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>I can't remember what size I made but I'm 5' 10" and I added about six inches to the skirt. For the silk I added about an inch to the top pieces so it would be more blousey. </li>
<li>Did a facing for the front opening instead of the ties. </li>
<li>If you remove the ties buttons and loops work better than a hook and eye. Personal experience speaking. :)</li>
</ul>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sv0FkNRt_I4/VnsWlVzHIUI/AAAAAAAADxc/_pFgFNgUT4E/s1600/Eliana2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="339" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sv0FkNRt_I4/VnsWlVzHIUI/AAAAAAAADxc/_pFgFNgUT4E/s640/Eliana2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
My friend and I love our dresses and they are seeing much wear. Thanks to Pauline Alice for drafting a great little dress pattern and Lizzy for letting me win a copy! I'm sold.<br />

If you are a Facebook user make sure to join <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/stashbusting2015/">our group</a> and share in the encouragement and enabling. <i><span style="font-size: x-small;">(psst... we will be doing it again next year</span></i>)<br />
<br />
Awhile ago I got sick of looking AT my pinterest and decided to actually make something! First I used up some strips for these little braided mug rugs... Not sure where these are going.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BzwuVjNg-Gw/VnR5cObY-AI/AAAAAAAADwU/Y3m3S89Imic/s1600/coaster1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="377" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BzwuVjNg-Gw/VnR5cObY-AI/AAAAAAAADwU/Y3m3S89Imic/s640/coaster1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Then these cute round coasters were tantalizing me so I whipped some up in a weekend. This used up some of my scraps and more importantly a scrap of batting that I'd been hoarding for just such a reason. I was super tickled with my achievements!<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PI4-LYH1JEU/VnR5bJBKY5I/AAAAAAAADwI/S1g2MADlO1c/s1600/Coasters2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="475" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PI4-LYH1JEU/VnR5bJBKY5I/AAAAAAAADwI/S1g2MADlO1c/s640/Coasters2.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The square ones were supposed to be round but the personalized "L" scrapped that idea.<br />
Sewing, the ever evolving art.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
As I was energized and ready to go on the next gifts on my list, I got a surprise email saying I made it into the big Christmas MADE Fair that was only three weeks away! What a surprise! I broke out the pliers and my button jars and made up some cute button earrings. (not that you can see the dent in my stash)...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KI3ee3z2nKk/VnR5cI-L8qI/AAAAAAAADwQ/z-3r77T3T_w/s1600/Earrings.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="358" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KI3ee3z2nKk/VnR5cI-L8qI/AAAAAAAADwQ/z-3r77T3T_w/s640/Earrings.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ESQTGZrFrlc/VnR3IprmBWI/AAAAAAAADvw/fsqmTPpmJ9g/s1600/IMG_0977.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ESQTGZrFrlc/VnR3IprmBWI/AAAAAAAADvw/fsqmTPpmJ9g/s640/IMG_0977.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Is it silly how happy I am to have a "butterfly" in Millefiori beads and Mother of Pearl buttons? </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I also made some Tiny Worlds that help grow big imaginations. This put another small dent in my scrap box and used up some of that weird yarn I couldn't get rid of either. It's those odd things that are so satisfying to use.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vSCoIhEWU1g/UQcH-KPuQ8I/AAAAAAAABHg/RI_d2r2lBYY/s1600/better%2Bhorses.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="452" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vSCoIhEWU1g/UQcH-KPuQ8I/AAAAAAAABHg/RI_d2r2lBYY/s640/better%2Bhorses.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Ending the random craft supply usage spree was me further ruining some already damaged linens by making some beautiful glass pendants showcasing the lace and embroidery from years gone by.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hMByYWZb9pE/VnbW2vbLYBI/AAAAAAAADw0/pgT9EY_OXbc/s1600/IMG_0895.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hMByYWZb9pE/VnbW2vbLYBI/AAAAAAAADw0/pgT9EY_OXbc/s400/IMG_0895.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Sorry for the sad ironing board photo but it was that or nothing!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
It may not be a lot, but it is something... I really enjoyed giving new life to the buttons and the linens that could never be used again.<br />
<br />
I've got a couple other big projects planned as soon as I go on Christmas break. How about you? Are you in the middle of Christmas Making Mayhem? Or are you waiting for the actual break? Will you get a break with time for sewing or be busy with family and friends?<br />
Whatever you do keep up the good work! Our year is almost over!<br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Merry Christmas Fellow Stashbusters!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_9LCfmz5RZU/UZpdlvfH_XI/AAAAAAAABxE/h18aYmZ2IWM/s1600/Fabric%2BElf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_9LCfmz5RZU/UZpdlvfH_XI/AAAAAAAABxE/h18aYmZ2IWM/s640/Fabric%2BElf.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
As you can see the fabric elves have been busy and it's time we got to work and showed them who's boss! Our theme for the final month of the year is "Christmas Mayhem!"</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
It's time to make gifts for others and ourselves! It's time to make all those random Christmas and holiday decorations we've been pondering. It's time to sew up the last of the stash for 2015!!!!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Can you believe it?? I don't know where this year has gone. It's been one of huge change for me and I only see more coming. I do hope it includes more sewing though! I'm working on stuff for a craft fair I'm in and once that is over I'm hitting the shelves to make up goodies I've been dreaming of for awhile!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
How about you? Are you ready for this holiday season? I may not be Santa but tell me what you want to sew...</div>

A Year of Musings<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Fair warning, this post is probably going to be as messy as my new sewing setup. But I miss you all so here I go. No more procrastinating!<br />
<br />
<b>Why haven't you heard from me?</b><br />
Well, we moved into our mostly remodeled house and I left for summer camp for three wonderful months then I came home and immediately went to work as a speech therapist paraprofessional which is as fulfilling as it is mentally draining.<br />
<br />
<b>Have I gotten to sew in all this?</b><br />
Well I finally got a sewing station set up and have rediscovered most of my sewing supplies. I've made a couple of SPECTACULAR pieces that I can't wait to share with you. I've also won some pretty amazing sewing swag and tested some super cool patterns and I really want to share with you all.<br />
I haven't figured out where to take photos yet which has been part of my procrastination in beginning to blog again.<br />
<br />
I've taken this impromptu blogging hiatus to evaluate what I want from my blog and life and all that big stuff!<br />
<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>I have a sewing related business and I want to promote it on here in a non spammy way... How exactly I haven't figured out yet... I mostly know how I don't want it to look. :) But I do run across great vintage stuff and I know some of my sewing bloggy friends would love it too! I love Sanae's blog and how she is trying to make a go of this entrepreneurial thing! I'm so jealous of her <a href="http://sanaeishida.com/?page_id=13893">Furoku </a> Membership! What a fabulous idea! We are different styles but I love her moving writing and maybe because we are so different she is so refreshing to me. I'd like to be as genuine as her. </li>
</ul>
<br /><ul>
<li>Tying into that, I want to write more thoughtful pieces. I want to finish <a href="http://tumbleweedsinthewind.blogspot.com/2015/02/arias-needle-sewing-story.html">Aria's story</a> and maybe a couple more I have percolating. The art of sewing should be celebrated and girls should have girl adventures where they win as girls not as girls acting like boys. (I hope that makes sense..)</li>
</ul>
<br /><ul>
<li>I've got so much cool stuff I want to share. There's nothing like the happy sewing community squeeing over a fabulous finished make together. I've also won so many cool giveaways and I need to thank the givers and pass on this loveliness! </li>
</ul>
<div>
I think what this boils down to is setting myself the goal of posting once a week. Then using my time wisely making stuff and writing all these stories. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
What have blogging breaks taught you? What's been happening in this sewing world that I've missed out on? </div>

Hello My Sewing Bloggy Friends!<br />
Long time no see! This renovating a house, while setting up a brick and mortar shop, while working two fill in jobs cramps the sewing, photographing, blogging thing. I've missed you! How's it going out there in sewing land?<br />
Once I get a space set up for photography you'll have to hold on to your blogreaders as I catch up on my finished makes... Until then here's a sneak peek of what I've been up to in the sewing arena. I'll spare you all the house remodel photos and stories!<br />

<br />
Hey Fellow Sewists,<br />
I'd like nothing more than to be showing you a finished project, a new beauty fresh off the sewing machine. Unfortunately I got glutened over Valentines weekend which leaves me open to all sorts of germs so today instead of finishing my new jeans I laid on my sofa bed trying to ignore my aching head and joints.<br />
I was really frustrated because there is so much that needs to get done and I want to get done and I was at the point where my patience was wearing thin with my limitations. I was sick of being sick. Ever feel that way yourself?<br />
In desperation I reached out to a new friend who also struggles with a chronic disease asking her how she gets through. Here's what she replied,<br />
<br />
<div style="color: #141823; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 17px; text-align: justify; white-space: pre-wrap;">
"You ask how I manage? I'm not real sure how I do manage. Sometimes I don't manage and (my daughter) gets an ear full. </div>
<div style="color: #141823; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; text-align: justify; white-space: pre-wrap;">
The one thing that I've been trying to accomplish is to refuse to think about what needs to be done. At a time like this one can always think of hundreds of millions of things to do. But <b>break it down to what is absolutely necessary. Will someone die if this doesn't get done?</b> No. Then it's not necessary for today. Right now just <b>focus on taking care of your body and that is to clear your mind of stress.</b> This is the time when it is absolutely necessary to just rest and meditate on the Word. It's hard to discipline one's mind to do it, but it can be done. ...</div>
<div style="color: #141823; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; text-align: justify; white-space: pre-wrap;">
As you rest, <b>think of all the fun things you would like to do some day and make a list</b>...yes, just for the fun of it. You can throw it away later or keep it, but it is a way that allows your mind to stay occupied and still lets your body rest. </div>
<div style="color: #141823; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; text-align: justify; white-space: pre-wrap;">
Now you know some of my secrets that get me through the worst of it. It's called diversion so I'm better able to deal with it. </div>
<div style="color: #141823; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; text-align: justify; white-space: pre-wrap;">
Hope some of these suggestions will help as you go through this day. Rest and sleep are your best friends right now; <b>embrace them</b>!"</div>
<div style="margin-top: 10px; text-align: left;">
I think she should add phone a friend to the list. Her words gave me the encouragement and permission to let myself relax and get some rest. I even took her advice and made a list. </div>
<div style="margin-top: 10px; text-align: left;">
I know I'm not the only creative who has to fight physical limitations to sew and some of you have also shared your struggles. So what keeps you from sewing? What do you do to keep your spirits up?</div>

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pupmDN6s7V0/VNwzSVSVALI/AAAAAAAADpk/fwN3qqwR0LI/s1600/IMG_8242.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pupmDN6s7V0/VNwzSVSVALI/AAAAAAAADpk/fwN3qqwR0LI/s1600/IMG_8242.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Changes, even good changes can take time to adjust to. Moving unsettles everything. All the sewing supplies are packed away and scattered throughout the rest of the household items. We're renovating our house while camping out in an apartment across the street. We have half a house worth of stuff crammed into a tiny apartment.<br />
I was sleeping on a nice air mattress bed until it molded, now I pull the sofa bed out each night and sleep there. Looking on the bright side, I was able to borrow a card table and set up my machines. I cannot tell you what a sigh of internal relief this brought me.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0vRFTnaJ9ag/VNwwEsDq9oI/AAAAAAAADpM/fmFoQBZpgbg/s1600/IMG_8328.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0vRFTnaJ9ag/VNwwEsDq9oI/AAAAAAAADpM/fmFoQBZpgbg/s1600/IMG_8328.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Check out the rest of the room. Every time we go out to the moving container I discover more treasures and drag them home. Bits of me slowly coming back together.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I literally stopped in the middle of a project to snap these photos because of that glorious sunshine coming through the<br />
window. It's amazing how much light can cheer you up.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Today I realized I've come full circle in my sewing. I started out on a card table in the living room, watching old movies and sewing polyester. While I'm done with polyester and can't get internet in this back room, the card table remains the same. So does my love of sewing.<br />
<br />
With new people, experiences and jobs, spotty internet and cell service, being able to pick up needle and thread and gain confidence in creating has been therapeutic. It hasn't fixed all my problems or made all the anxiety and confusion go away or shortened my to do list but it has given me brief moments of peace. It has allowed me to create beauty out of the chaos.<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SWUwqL0ZVfE/VNwwC4I1ZII/AAAAAAAADo8/i27lUsdyan8/s1600/IMG_8327.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SWUwqL0ZVfE/VNwwC4I1ZII/AAAAAAAADo8/i27lUsdyan8/s1600/IMG_8327.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Eye candy for now... my silk dresses. Left is a new TNT pattern. Right is a Japanese pattern.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
And while I haven't gotten up the courage to photograph my latest creations I had no problem filling my pockets with sewing paraphernalia and traipsing out to the backyard scattering buttons and stabbing pins in trees for some fairy sewing photos.<br />

In a time when I feel quite blown about in spirit I'm grasping at the threads I DO have in an attempt to keep me anchored. So hello Sewing Machine. Hello Sewing Friends. I'm glad you are here.<br />

<div style="font-family: 'Handwriting - Dakota';">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">Softly humming, Aria sat in an open grassy field; her needle weaving in and out, in and out, gently, rhythmically, methodically, quickly through the fabric in her lap. She felt the soft breeze brush her cheek on it’s way by, and the sun warm her head as she sat and sewed the fabric she had been given for that day’s assignment. With a jolt, her fingers reached for fabric and found none. She had come to the end. There was nothing more in her lap. Jerking her head up, Aria softly gasped as she glanced around. While the fabric had disappeared, the once empty green field around her was covered in exquisite blooms.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: 'Handwriting - Dakota';">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">From atop the tower of wisdom, the Headmistress of Fairy Godmothers turned away and began down the winding stair well, busily making plans for what now must be done. Aria had shown much skill and quick progress for one so young and newly entered into the School of Fairy Godmothers. Today revealed potential rarely seen and envious whispers were already rising from the girls in the court yard who had also witnessed Aria’s unintentional feat. Something must be done quickly so her thoughts would not be poisoned and her gift lost or twisted beyond recognition. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: 'Handwriting - Dakota'; min-height: 20px;">

<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: 'Handwriting - Dakota';">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">Shivering, Aria wrapped her arms around her knees, pulling herself into a ball as her eyes adjusted to the darkness. Where was she? This wasn’t supposed to happen. None of it. She was supposed to be at home! With her brothers and sisters around the hearth. Telling stories as she did the day’s mending. Not here in some dark hole! What gifts did she have? Sent away from home because she was special. Sent away from school because she was special. “A power to create.” the headmistress had said. Some creating! More like the destruction of her life! </span></div>
<div style="font-family: 'Handwriting - Dakota';">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">“There is power in your needle Aria.” the headmistress had explained. Some power. Where had it been when the bandits attacked their cart? When she’d been dragged away with a bag over her head and shoved in this place? </span></div>
<div style="font-family: 'Handwriting - Dakota';">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">She unclasped her hands and sat up, fiddling through the layers of her traveling dress to feel the needle sewn into the hem of her chemise. She poked it through and drew out that long thin bit of metal. It glimmered faintly in her palm. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: 'Handwriting - Dakota';">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">The headmistress’s words continued to echo through her mind, “There is power in your needle Aria. It is a power that you must learn to use and control. Many will want what you can give them and you must grow in discernment as you grow in skill. The Eagle’s Crag will be a quiet private place for you to do that.”</span></div>
<div style="font-family: 'Handwriting - Dakota';">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">Power. She mused, index finger poking the needle. “Power. Well let’s see what this can do.” as she plucked a strand of hair from her head and threaded the eye. Her hands felt for the first of many rents in her cloak. “Dragging someone blindfolded through a forest could cause almost as much damage as her brothers in the pigpen.” she mused. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="font-family: 'Handwriting - Dakota';">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0px;">Aria began to mend; her needle moving in and out, in and out, quickly, quietly sewing up the holes. She sat in the darkness and thought of home, of warmth.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: 'Handwriting - Dakota';">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0px;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: 'Handwriting - Dakota'; text-align: center;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0px;">~~~~~~~~~~</span></div>
<div style="font-family: 'Handwriting - Dakota'; text-align: center;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0px;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: 'Handwriting - Dakota'; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Now Aria's Needle has taken on a life of it's own and I'm not sure where it will lead...</span></div>

If there is one thing all sewists have in common it's our tactile nature. How many of us are also letter writers? I'll be the first to admit to not being the most regular correspondent but I do enjoy popping things off in the post and not having reliable internet connections has made me more liable to pick up pen and paper in the evening.<br />
<br />

Since I'm always looking for ways to incorporate sewing into other aspects of life I went on a hunt to find sewing stationary, specifically postcards. It was a sad search my friends... <a href="http://merchantandmills.com/products/graphics/sew-9-card-set/">Merchant and Mills</a>, <a href="http://www.annettetirette.com/2014/12/postcards-to-send-to-your-friends-and.html">this lovely lady</a>, <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/165850224/sewing-art-postcard-reproduction-of?ref=favs_view_3">a lovely watercolor,</a> and <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/211737342/10-4-x-6-postcards-illustrated-antique?ref=sr_gallery_8&ga_search_query=sewing+machine+postcard&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery">one set of sewing machines</a>. That was it. Are we really that small of a market? We with our swaps, sewalongs, secret valentines, sew bossyness and general friend making?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yP1YSB7rStk/VNVWihKPwkI/AAAAAAAADnI/gbR9WLTgM8Y/s1600/IMG_8195.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yP1YSB7rStk/VNVWihKPwkI/AAAAAAAADnI/gbR9WLTgM8Y/s1600/IMG_8195.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Since I'm also always looking for new income opportunities I've been researching printing my own postcards and the findings are surprising. Photography is always a work in progress as well. What makes lovely quality blog photos does not make good printing quality postcards. Composition is also an art. I took 65 photos and only three or four am I happy with.<br />

So what do you think of my ideas? Do you send out snail mail? Would you buy sewing themed postcards?<br />

Our first month has flown and the totals are rolling in! January's theme was refreshment. Whether that was reorganizing, tackling the UFO pile or sewing something to get back in the groove I wanted to give us time to catch up and take a deep breath! It's a good thing too because<a href="https://stoneysews.wordpress.com/"> Judy is our Theme Leader </a>for this month and <a href="https://stoneysews.wordpress.com/2015/01/28/the-february-stashbust-challenge-plus-the-grandest-grand-prize-and-4-great-categories-4-great-prizes/">she is hosting a CONTEST!</a> With prizes and everything! So hop over there to get the details and look at the stash in a new light.<br />
<br />
How did I do in January?<br />
<ul>
<li>I completed <a href="http://tumbleweedsinthewind.blogspot.com/2015/01/staple-dress-insanity.html">three Staple Dresses</a> which concluded my massive project.</li>
<li>The <a href="http://tumbleweedsinthewind.blogspot.com/2015/01/thread-theory-camas-blouse-review.html">Hip Office Lady Camas Blouse </a>1 1/2 yds?</li>
<li>From a six or seven yard sari I made</li>
<ul>
<li>A silk tunic</li>
<li>A Japanese Pleated Dress</li>
<li>A slip to go under it all</li>
</ul>
<li><a href="http://tumbleweedsinthewind.blogspot.com/2015/01/mary-knickers.html">Mary Knickers </a>which was also one of<a href="http://tumbleweedsinthewind.blogspot.com/2015/01/top-5-finale-reflecting-on-past.html"> my 2015 Goals</a>! Gold star for me!</li>
<li>Two basic cream tops 3yds</li>
<li>A pink Camo Top UFO</li>
</ul>
I also got a couple other projects cut out and some PDFs printed so February should see me chugging right along. But what about you? Here's what's happening in the Flickr group!<br />

So how do you feel your month went? Are you refreshed and ready to go or still feeling overwhelmed by the piles?</div>

<br />
Who knew sewing your own underpants would be such a self esteem journey? I didn't.<br />
<br />
It first started with the name of the pattern, "<a href="http://www.measuretwicecutonce.com.au/product/the-mary-knickers/">The Mary Knickers</a>" Now while MeasureTwice did a kind job with her description, no one wants to be Mary from Pride and Prejudice. But a knit undies pattern was what I was looking for and a boy short sounded appealing so I bought it regardless of it's name.<br />
<br />
When I tried on my first test pair the front fit beautifully while the back only came 3/4 up my bum. This started a whirlwind of thought.<br />
<i>Is this how boy shorts are supposed to fit? Is my bum really poofy like my grandmother said? Could I make this work as is? If I alter it am I just recreating my granny panties? </i><br />
<i><br /></i>
It was at this point that I stopped myself before the insecurities could get loose. It doesn't matter how the pattern was "designed" to fit. It doesn't matter if the pants I end up with could be classified as "granny panties" . If any part of our sewing is about getting the fit we want PERSONALLY, it should be our underwear. This silenced my moaning and I went back and added a large wedge to the back of the pattern.<br />
<br />

<br />
Pattern Notes:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>I added a wedge to CB to bring it up</li>
<li>Tapered down CF</li>
<li>Sewed down the short edges of crotch pieces. This puts a seam across the front and back of the undies but I think that's better than having some sort of weird pocket there.</li>
<li>Marked back and front on the crotch piece. The back is the straight edge!</li>
<li>Used underwear elastic for top instead of a casing.</li>
<li>Used elastic thread for shirring in my bobbin to hem my legs. </li>
</ul>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8r6bxgVn3XE/VM0CtaJr9yI/AAAAAAAADmk/gynTvYhV5NM/s1600/Mary%2BKnickers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8r6bxgVn3XE/VM0CtaJr9yI/AAAAAAAADmk/gynTvYhV5NM/s1600/Mary%2BKnickers.jpg" height="288" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Thoughts:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>I got so excited to be using up my scraps, I cut up a shirt I've been saving for a couple years and it will probably get more wear now than it ever did! Because who can resist millefiori on their bum! </li>
<li>I'm finally getting to use up all those vintage elastics and I'm loving it!</li>
<li>I've completed one of my <a href="http://tumbleweedsinthewind.blogspot.com/2015/01/top-5-finale-reflecting-on-past.html">goals for 2015</a>! </li>
</ul>
<div>
While this hasn't stash busted much in yardage it has decreased the clutter. I've got some sewing planned for today so you have the weekend to finish your projects and post to the <a href="https://www.flickr.com/groups/stashbusting2015/">Stashbusting Flickr </a>group. I'll be back monday with my totals and a Roundup!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
What are your thoughts on undergarments? And more interesting, what are they called where you live?</div>
